Happy National Pug Day!

Every October 15, pug lovers around the world celebrate National Pug Day — a time to shower our wrinkly companions with love, highlight their charm, and raise awareness about adoption and responsible care.

📜 Origins & History

  • National Pug Day was created in 2012 by Colleen Paige, a well-known pet and family lifestyle expert who also founded other pet holidays like National Dog Day.
  • Paige intended the holiday not just to celebrate pugs, but also to encourage people to adopt from rescues and shelters rather than purchasing from breeders or pet stores.
  • Since then, it’s gradually grown in visibility, with pug owners posting photos, raising rescue awareness, hosting local meetups, and more!

🐶 Why We Celebrate Pugs

Pugs are beloved for so many reasons: their smooshed faces, expressive eyes, hilarious snorts, and heartwarming personalities. But beneath the cuteness, they also often face breed-specific health challenges (respiratory issues, skin fold infections, eye concerns), which makes awareness and education especially important.

National Pug Day is a chance to:

  • Appreciate everything that makes pugs so special
  • Remind others about the responsibilities of pug ownership
  • Promote adoption and rescue efforts
  • Share stories and photos of our pug companions
